Sancti Petri (inside the estuary) – A setting of currents and blind spots

A fishing area located within the Sancti Petri estuary, heavily influenced by currents, which makes it a very technical and highly productive setting when the water movement is well understood. It is an area where gilthead bream, sea bass, leerfish, sargo, and other species can be caught, especially with high tidal coefficients.

This spot features a blind zone both on the incoming and outgoing tides, which can and should be exploited, as it acts as a refuge and feeding area when the rest of the estuary has too strong a current. During spring tides, these windows of relative calm become key and concentrate much of the activity.

It works especially well when fishing during transition moments, focusing on the start and end of each movement, when the water flows strongly but allows for a natural bait presentation. With low tidal coefficients, the estuary loses much of its life, so high coefficients are clearly the most productive in this scenario.

The most favorable winds are usually light to moderate, as the determining factor here is not the waves but the current, making it essential to adjust sinkers and leaders to keep the bait working in place.

As for baits, natural and scent-heavy ones stand out: cuttlefish, octopus, crab, worms, razor clams, and mantis shrimp, always adapting the size and hardness to the current level and target species.
