Barreiro (Portugal) – Estuary port area with strong current influence

Fishing area located in the port environment of Barreiro, within the Tagus estuary, a scenario clearly marked by currents, water traffic and mixed bottoms, ideal for species such as seabass, thin-lipped grey mullet, sargo and gilthead bream, with the possibility of very good size specimens when the area is well worked.

This is a scenario that works especially well with medium and high coefficients, when the water movement activates the fish and forces it to position itself in shaded areas, backwaters and current breaks created by the port structures. Here it is not about casting far, but about placing the bait where the fish feels safe.

During strong tides, it is advisable to look for points where the current loses strength: areas close to walls, dock entrances and depth changes, as these act as true blind spots that concentrate activity while the rest of the environment has too much water.

Winds have less weight than on open beaches, with current reading and tide times being more decisive, although with light wind that does not complicate the drift, bait presentation is greatly optimized.

As for baits, in this type of scenario, baits with smell and resistance stand out: cuttlefish, octopus, crab, razor clam and strong worms, always adapting the size to the current level and the type of species being sought.
